Low-Cost Tours In South
Four low-cost tours planned by the New Zealand Government Tourist Bureau, in conjunction with the New Zealand Railways and the Mount Cook and Southern Lakes Tourist Company, will operate from Christchurch between June 1 and October 31.
They consist of a 10-day tour of Mount Cook, Queenstown and Dunedin, a nine-day tour covering the same area in reverse; an eight-day tour to Lake Ohau, Queenstown and Dunedin; and a nine-day tour in reverse for £26 ss. The tours will operate from Christchurch, but can be joined at other places. “They are something new, as it is the first time the three organisations have combined to offer these tours at a low cost,” said a spokesman for the Tourist Department yesterday. Because accommodation at these areas is usually full with overseas visitors during the peak period from December to April, the low cost of the tours are expected to be attractive for New Zealanders who have not visited these places.
