Obituary MR A. E. TORRENS
Mr Albert Edward Torrens, of Corsair Bay, Lyttelton, who died Christchurch on Wednesday evening, was well-known for his activities on behalf of the Returned Services’ Association. Born in England 71 years ago, mr Torrens came to New Zealand as a seaman. He settled in Lyttelmn and worked for a time for We Railways Department. He served overseas with the First New Zealand Expeditionary Force and on his return worked for some years on the waterfront and for the Wheat Commission at Lyttelton. He was also for some years custodian at Corsair Bay. '
For 18 years Mr Torrens was •ecretary-treasurer of the Lyttelmn branch of the Returned Ser--2? Ces ’ Association, retiring from “jat position six years ago. For ms services to the association, and ? Particular for his part in rehabilitation work on behalf of returned servicemen, he was awarded the Gold Star by the national executive of the association.
Torrens was a member of Masonic Lodge, He was a member and su PPorter of the former Swimming Club and ®s also a supporter of Associa°n football as well as other sports.
