NIR J. A. ROY TO RETIRE
Long Service In House (New Zealand Press Association) GORE, May 14. Mr J. A. Roy, the longestserving member of the National Party in the House of Representatives, announced at the
annual meeting of the Clutha electorate branch of the party at Clinton last night that he would not be seeking re-election at the end of his present term in Parliament. Mr Roy was elected to represent Clutha in 1935, and he mentioned last night that he and Sir Sidney Holland were the only new members of the National Party (known previously as the Coalition) at that election. Mr Roy served in the First World War and won the Military Cross and Bar.
