Prison Riots In Uganda
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) KAMPALA (Uganda), May 13. Riots at two Uganda prisons resulted in three European officials and several African constables being injured and the escape of 10 prisoners, it was reported today. Reuter said that seven prisoners escaped during a riot at Mbarara, in western Uganda, which started when a prisoner was punished for being asleep when he should have been working on the prison farm. In another prison at Lira, in northern Uganda, police shot ofl the locks on the main door alter rioting inmates had driven off unarmed guards with knives and picks and locked themselves inside.
