DUCK SHOOTER DROWNED
Boat Struck Snag And Sank
(New Zealand Press Association) ROTORUA, May 14. A man was drowned during a duck shooting expedition on the Rangitaiki river near Te Teko this morning. He was: James John Stevens, aged about 50, married, with five children, a land agent, of Mount Maunganui. Mr Stevens and a companion, Mr Harry Marr, of Matata, were searching the river near the Kokohinau Pa at 10.30 a.m. when their boat struck a snag and filled with water. Mr Marr managed to reach the
river’s edge in an exhausted condition, but Mr Stevens was carried away by a fairly strong current. It -was reported at midday that his body had not been recovered. One veteran driving teacher maintains that good driving is nine-tenths attitude and one-tenth skill.
