LORD BLEDISLOE COMMEMORATION
Mr Nash Envisages Fund For Wreaths (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 14. The establishment of a permanent fund of £lOO, of which he would donate the first £lO, to commemorate in England with a wreath each year the late Lord Bledisloe, was envisaged by the Prime Minister (Mr Nash) at today’s annual wreath-laying ceremony on the grave of Edward Gibbon Wakefield. Mr Nash’s statement, which was warmly approved by the large gathering, was in answer to a suggestion by the president of the Early Settlers’ and. Historical Association, Professor E. P. Wilson, of Levin, who said it had been his privilege to know many a Governor-General of New Zealand but he thought Lord Bledisloe, in particular, had his heart in the country. The Mayor (Mr F. J. Kitts), who laid the wreath on Wakefield’s grave, also paid tribute to Lord Bledisloe, who organised the fund for the local annual wreath-laying. Other speakers were Mr J. G. Marshall, representing the Leader of the Opposition, and" the president of the New Zealand Founders’ Society, Mr A. H. Macandrew.
