Australian In New Zealand

((Rec. 11.25 p.m.) SYDNEY. May 14. Having lived for eight months in New Zealand, a Sydney woman said in a letter to the editor of the “Daily Mirror” that she will never leave Australia again. The woman, who signed herself “Reba,” says her experience of New Zealand was an “eyeopener.” “In an exclusive fruit shop in Queen street, Auckland, I was told the price of a pineapple—*6s 9d, lady.’” she said. “It was almost impossible to get lamb chops—those lovely, inch-thick beauties as we know them. “As a machinist in the clothing trade, I got the fabulous wage of £9 a week (£8 15s after social tax). In Sydney I got £ll 2s 6d clear. “For a room and kitchenette I paid £4 a week.. “Bus fares can not be compared. Cabs worked out about 3d to 6d a mile cheaper.”
