Trade Mission In Moscow

(Rec. 11.20 p.m.) MOSCOW, May 12. The President of the British Board of Trade (Sir David Eccles) arrived at Moscow Airport tonight at the head of a British trade mission. He was greeted by a large delegation of Soviet trade officials headed by the Minister of Foreign Trade (Mr N. S. Patolichev). In a brief speech at the airport, Sir David Eccles recalled that the first direct trade contact between Britain and Russia took place “in the middle of the month of May, four centuries ago.” He added: “That first direct contact between our two countries is a good omen, for the mission succeeded and led to a useful exchange of goods between our countries." He added: “Our job is to give a practical effect to a decision taken by Mr Macmillan and Mr Khrushchev. They agreed that an expansion of Anglo-Russian trade was possible and we have to see what can be done.” ,
