MOTHER’S DAY GIFTS
Flowers Still VeryPopular
Sons and daughters all over the world think of one of the sweetest ways of mending absence on Mother’s Day is with a gift of flowers. “It is just like Christmas,” said one Christchurch florist yesterday, passing a hand across her brow as she surveyed the stacks of flowers arranged ready for delivery. and the many still to be sorted. “There are orders not only from all parts of New Zealand. but from all over the world.’’ All orders will not be fulfilled, although some florists worked all Thursday and Friday nights. ‘‘The orders came later than usual this year,” said another florist. “We have enough flowers, but doubt if we can cope with the flood of orders. Never have flowers been so popular as this year.” “Red roses and any kinds of white flowers are favourites.” said the florist. “We need plenty of white carnations, chrysanthemums, freesias, and nerines. Violets and anemones sell well too, but all kinds of flowers are in demand. Some people want flowers seat in plain bunches, but others prefer them ‘all tissied-up’ in little posies or sprays.”
Since all the flowers are grown out of doors except cyclamen and
•some carnations, many have been spoilt by the bad weather. However. there are plenty available for the..occasion.
