NEW SCHEDULE WELCOMED
"Some Notable Exceptions” (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 13. “The New Zealand Retailers’ Federation welcomes the additional allocation made in the import schedule for goods handled by their members,” said the federation chairman, Mr A. L. George. “It will help to relieve some critical shortages felt by the consuming public. “Representations were made last year for an increase in a list of items which was carefully prepared, with an eye to the fact that there was a crisis in the sterling balances in London.” Mr George said some of the items mentioned in today’s schedule had been included in the federation’s list, but some notable exceptions existed. No relief had been given, for instance, in footwear for children, sizes nine to 13, children’s socks and stockings, cardigans and allied items up to size 13in, cotton piece goods, sheets, towels, carpets, oven glassware and cutlery. “These are all items that the federation considered warranted an increased allocation, and it is disappointing that no provision has been made for a better supply,” he said.
