MINE MANAGER INJURED
Struck By Truck
Of Coal
(From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH, Feb. 17.
The Liverpool State colliery manager, Mr Leo Francis O’Loughlin, aged 65, married, of Dunollie, was hit by a full truck of coal which jumped off the rails at the mine this morning. He was making an underground inspection and stood to one side to allow a full rake of trucks to pass. The first truck, however, jumped the rails and pinned him against a prop. He appeared to be badly injured and was unconscious when carried from the mine.
He was taken to the Greymouth Hospital and admitted soon after midday. His condition was later stated to be satisfactory, his injuries consisting of concussion. bruises and, cuts.
Mr O’Loughlin was due to retire next month. Mr A. Coppersmith, senior underviewer, takes over the mine in the meantime.
