Harvard Crashes
On Runway
Flying' operations at Christchurch airport were held up for nearly an hour yesterday while an R.N.Z.A.F. Harvard, which crashed at the intersection, of the main runways, was .cleared from the field. . . , A Douglas aircraft and the Viscount, City of ” Wellington, circled the city for between 39 minutes and an hour while * salvage vehicle waa sent from the R.N.Z.A.F station, Wigratii, to Harewood, The Harvard was removed The Harvard, piloted by ActingPilot Officer J. L. A. Pendreigh, of Wanganui, was on routine runway landing practice—for which the Air- Force pilots are authorised to use Harewood—when it ground looped, damaging its undercarriage. The pilot was unhurt, and walked away from the aircraft where it had slithered to a halt at the, point' where the main north-east . runway crosses the mail! north-west runway.
