Why Pontecorvo Defected

Professor Bruno Pontecorvo, the scientist who defected to Russia with Britain’s nuclear secrets in 1951, said today that he did so “because of Hiroshima,” according to the American Associated Press. “Hiroshima was a bad enough action, and it’s getting dirtier every day." tlut Moscow magazine quoted him as saying during an interview. -Qtoriyok” said Professor Pon-*“?**o_-was happy at his work, and satisfied with bis comrades.
