■ President de Gaulle told 10,060 cheering townspeople today that he was convinced there would be no third world war “in our epoch.” , He was speaking on the second day of a four-day tour of Southern France. One of his officials
said he planned to make periodic visits to different parts of the country to keep his finger on the pulse of public opinion. General de Gaulle, it was learned, is preparing to visit the United States later this year, and may visit Britain next year. The present tour, which began at Toulouse yesterday, was seen by officials and observers as the first test of the popularity of the
Government’s recent austerity measures and the continuence of emergency in Algeria.
