CARS COLLIDE ON BRIDGE
Three Persons Hurt At Rakaia (From Our Own Reporter) ASHBURTON, February 15. An unusual accident about halfway across the Rakaia river bridge this morning resulted in three persons being taken to the Ashburton Public Hospital, and caused a slight traffic delay while the damaged cars were moved from the bridge. All the injured persons are from Wellington. They are: Frank Stevenson, of 4 Dunlop terrace, concussion and suspected fractured ribs; Irene Stevenson, his wife, cuts and abrasions; Eva Maude Clark (Mrs Stevenson’s mother), cuts and abrasions. Mr Stevenson was admitted to the hospital but Mrs Stevenson and Mrs Clark were treated as out-patients. The injured man’s condition was reported by the hospital late this evening as satisfactory. Another passenger in Mr Stevenson’s car was. Mr Percy Clark, but he was not hurt The accident happened when Mr Stevenson’s car ran into the rear of a stationary car driven by Graham John Crisford. of Malvern Hills, Blenheim. Mr Crisford had stopped nis car behind a van that had broken down on the bridge, to allow a bus coming from the opposite direction to pass. His car was pushed into the left railing of the bridge and Mr Stevenson’s car veered across the bridge and crashed into the right railings. Both cars were damaged, and had to be towed away.
