MAN ADMITS 28 OFFENCES
False Pretences And Theft
Twenty-eight offences, including 13 of false pretences involving goods to the value of more than £3700, and 13 of breaking and entering and theft, were admitted by a man who appeared in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday before Mr N. M. Izard, SJM. He was Harold Joseph Oakes, a 26-year-old tree-feller. Oakes was alleged to have obtained seven motor-cars, petrol, and other goods by issuing false cheques, and to have stolen Scotch whisky, cigarettes and other articles by breaking and entering offices, shops, clubs, 'warehouses and dwellings. He , was also charged with possessing housebreaking tools. Pleading guilty to the charges, Oakes, who was represented by Mr A. Hearn, was remanded in custody tc January 29 for a probation officer’s report.
