V.Z. POLICE FORCE

Full Strength Of 2430 Reached

The New Zealand Police Force was now at full strength with a total enrolment of 2430, said the Minister of Police (Mr Connolly) in Christchurch yesterday. However, recruiting would still continue. Approximately 60 meh were due to retire on March 31, because they had attained the age of 60, although provision was made in legislation for retaining any men who would suffer hardship if retired then. “Inside the next 12 months, the top 15 officers in the force; with the exception of the Commissioner and the Assistant-Com-missioner, will have retired or be in the process of retiring Thus there will be a considerable number of promotions in prospect.” said the Minister. The Minister said a particularly good type of recruit was offering. and he would make the same comment about the police cadets, 38 of whom had just been enrolled in the training wing.
