STUD FAIR TO BE HELD AT TIMARU

Association Launches New Venture A stud fbir, which win react to the benefit of sheep breeders from all parts of Canterbury and other districts, has been organised by the Timaru Agricultural and Pastoral Association. The fair will be held at the show grounds at Smithfield i on February 13. The secretary of the association (Mr John Barron) said yesterday that thia was an entirely new ventune, and that it would be an annual In the past the association has held , highly successful ram and ewe fairs > at which the main offering was flock rams, although stud rams and ewes were also offered. 1 Timaru to the centre of a promini ent and successful sheep farming ; district with a considerable number [ of stud flocks, and the time to now . opportune for a special fair for stud sheep. ■ Mr Barron said it was hoped that : breeders and buyers from other ! parts of Canterbury would support the fair. Some time ago the association spent a large sum - of money Installing modern pens and • a modern selling arena which is 5 well equipped for handling such fairs. It is not surprising, iu view of the extent of sheep farming tn the i district, that previous floek fairs ) have been highly successful, with ' excellent entries and a keen demand - from farmers. - Mr Barron added that buyer* had r always had gretft confidence in the sheep offered as they were ext amined by a veterinarian and repre- : sentatives of breed societies.
