ARMY TRAINING POSTPONED
Recommendations By Committee I As the result of successful, applications made on behalf of 14 Postponement Committee yesterday the trainees will probably not be required to undergo any further training. In each case the committee decided to recommend to the Army authorities that further attendance at camp be either dispensed with or postponed beyond the date of th final South Island camp on March 2. ’ L. S. Laycock, Ltd., sought postponements for two of its panel-beaters, J. G. Spang and G. H. Shepherd, both of whom it was claimed were urgently required for motor-car repair work. It was conceded by the company that a postponement for one of the men would be of assistance, but it was unable to suggest which man would be more easily dispensable. The committee decided to recommend that Spang, whose name appeared first on the list, be excused from further training, and that Shepherd be granted a postponement until March 2. The application of A. Cartwright, a fitter and turner, on the grounds that attendance at camp would impose financial hardship, was adjourned. An adjournment was also granted in the application of D. F. Nuttall, Ltd., on behalf of S. F. Judd, a clerk.
The committee, which comprised Messrs A. H. Cavell (chairman), ItrH. Webb, J. H. Ward, E. O. Edwards (Crown representative) and L. T. Falconer (secretary), considered 18" applications. Ih applications made on behalf of the following trainees it was decided to' recommend that further training be either dispensed with er postponed for the current training year:— R.
