DIVERS LOOK AT WRECK

Bags Of Coal In Good Condition A sunken wreck, the Koi, which nas beep on the seabed near Picton for a number of years, was investigated by 12 underwater enthusiasts during the recent New Zealand underwater convention. The divers used S.C.U.B.A. — self contained under water breathing apparatus—and they dived to about 50 feet. The water was 1 fairly clear and there was a good light from the surface. The name of the ship could be read easily. A Canterbury diver, Mr K. Gordon, who saw the wreck, said the steel hulk was about 80 feet long. On board were about a dozen bags of coal which appeared to be in good condition. The wreck is now the home of many different species of fish. Mr Gordon said that when 'he dived there were hundreds of fish which were very tame and some even took food from his hand.
