AIR BATTLE OVER EGYPT
Condemnation Of Israel
(Rec. 8.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, January 13.
The Egyptian-Israeli Mixed Armistice Commission today condemned Israel for an aerial battle over Egyptian territory on January 8. The United Nations reported that Israel was absent at the emergency meeting at the armistice demarcation line, but that the Canadian chairman of the commission voted with the Egyptian delegation for the condemnation.
The commission found that Israel jet fighter aircraft crossed the international frontier, in violation of the 1949 armistice agreement It called upon Israel to cease “such hostile air violations.” At the time of the incident, Israel officials said that aircraft of the United Arab Republic had first crossed the border and flown over the Negev.
