Croquet NORTH ISLAND TITLES
A. Ross’s Success In Open
(New Zealand Press Association) HASTINGS, January 14. The Hastings player, A. Ross, today continued his run of victories in the North Island croquet championships being held on Napier and Hastings greens. He scored two triple peels against Mrs R. Moffitt (Auckland) in the open championships, scoring to such an extent in the first game that Mrs Moffitt was able to play only three shots.
In the final of the men’s championship Ross also took an easy victory over W. B. Taylor (England), winning, 26-9. 26-10. In the other. final of the handicap doubles, Mesdames J. Ritchie and A. Lambert (Hastings), SJ, beat Mesdames G. McKenzie Smart and S Moss (Gisborne), 6. 21-11. Other results were:—
Women’s championship, second life: Mrs H. Purdy (Hastings) beat Mrs S. Angrove (Napier), 26-13; Mrs G. McKenzie Smart (Gisborne) beat Mrs J. Ritchie (Hastings), 26-11. Championship doubles: W. B. Paynter (Auckland) and H. Ford (Auckland) beat Mrs Purdy and A. Ross (Hastings), 26-13. Open championship: Mrs R. Moffitt (Auckland) beat Mrs H. Apperley (Hastings), 15-16, 26-17, 26-15; H. Ford (Auckland), beat Mrs H. Purdy (Hastings), 26-8, 26-17; A. Ross (Hastings) beat Mrs R. Moffitt (Auckland) 26-0, 26-14.
