FROTH AT TRENTHAM

Cup Winner Has

Thrived

"The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON, January 14. Froth, the likely favourite for the Wellington Cup, arrived at Trentham yesterday. She was given light work this morning and her appearance could not be faulted. Obviously she has thrived since her success in the Auckland Cup.

Many prominent Auckland trainers who witnessed her Ellerslie triumph cannot visualise her defeat on Saturday, in spite of her Increased weight. Other Wellington Cup candidates which made their appearance at Trentham this morning were Llanlsfair, Foxmara, Turkman, and AllurJlanisfalr and Foxmara are trained by R. T. Cotter at Te Rapa. Fourth in the Foxbridge Plate at Te Rapa in November is the best Llanisfair has done in 10 starts this season, but he has proved himself over two miles at Trentham, and he looks ready to give a good account of himself on Saturday. Foxmara, a four-year-old, has consistent form in the north. He was runner-up to Froth in the Queen Elizabeth Handicap on the opening day at Ellerslie and then finished third in the Auckland Cup,

He is a true stayer and the more I testing Trentham course should not worry him.

Turkman and Alluring are members of J. L. McDonald’s team. There is not much of Turkman, but he showed stamina to win the Summer Cup at Ellerslie. In his only subsequent start he was well back tn the Nathans Memorial Handicap on the final day. Alluring also arrived in good condition. She won the Waikato Gold Cup, one mile and a half, in November, and finished sixth in the Auckland Cup. At her last attempt she was second to Waipari in the John Wells Memorial at Avondale last week. The feature of her latest racing has been her strong finishing burst, so the long Trentham straight should suit her.

McDonald also brought Attila and Cremovana. Attila Is engaged In the Telegraph Handicap on Saturday. He is a previous open sprint winner at Trentham, and at his last start he heralded a return to winning form when he finished second to Lion in the Newmarket Handicap at Ellerslie. CremoVana was successful at Avondale last week, but it has not been decided whether she will run in the Camp Hack Handicap. If she does she will be ridden by H. N. Bauhihi, and will carry a 51b penalty. Additional riders on Saturday are: T. Rudd, Shona Kildare; K. D. Campbell, Scrlpto; H. N. Rauhlhl, Turkman, Cremovana, Attila; R. J. Skelton. Hannibal.
