Brabin Shield Players Excelled At Tourney
JN spite of the rather mediocre showing of the Plunket Shield •ide this season, the successful performance of the under 20 team at the Brabin Tournament in Wellington gives the impression that Canterbury cricket is in good heart. In the six-day tournament these youngsters showed their superiority quite clearly. After earlier outright wins against Otago and Auckland, both by more than one innings Canterbury forced Wellington to follow on in the final match. The points table for the tourna-
D. Hill captained the side well, and after the first innings against Otago was acted as wicket-keeper, a job which he did very capably. J. England, the wicket-keeper, who joined the side late after playing in the Plunket Shield side in Dimedin, injured his shoulder attempting a diving catch and was unable to play again during the tournament. This was most unfortunate for England, as it probably cost him a place in the New Zealand tournament team.
