“Exploitation Of Stable Boys”
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY, December 11. A union official claimed today that stable boys registered with the Australian Jockey Club.were being exploited. The assistant secretary of the Miscellaneous Workers’ Union, Mr G. Ford, will ask his executive to negotiate an award, or an agreement, to provide adequate wages for the boys. He said today the boys were not entitled to the basic wage or penalty rates for overtime, but they worked unlimited hours, fot “a pittance.” * • . Many of the boys slept above or in the stables. They had no award, and could be worked and paid according to the employer’s whim, Mr Ford said.
