THE FIRST MAORI DIPLOMAT.—Lieutenant-Colonel C. M. Bennett and Mrs Bennett photographed in Christchurch yesterday on their return from England. Colonel Bernett, who has been studying at Oxford University, was recently appointed New Zealand High Commissioner in Malaya. He will assume his new office early in the New with headquarters in Kuala Lumpur. A son of the first Bishop of Aotearoa (the Rt. Rev. F. A. Bennett), Colonel Bennett commanded the Maori Battalion during the 1939-45 War.
