Boxing Moore Favoured In Montreal
(NJC. PrtM Atsadation—Comirlaht) MONTREAL, December fl. Archie Moore, perhaps the oldest active champion in ring history, remained a firm favourite to retain his world light heavyweight title tomorrow night against Canadian Yvon Durelle, despite the champion demanding a larat-minute revision of the contract to include a return-bdut clause. Durelle did not object to the new version of the contract, which would guarantee Moore a return fight should he lose. Moore, who will be either <5 or 42, or even maybe 37, on Saturday, will fight the Sfl-year-old Durelle, burly champion of ' Canada and the British Empire. : over 15 rounds at the Montreal 1 forum. : Moore was favoured at 13 to 5 on, today, to beat the awkward but persistent challenger from Bale Ste. Anne, New Brunswick. Jack Sharkey, former world heavyweight bolting champion, , will referee the bout. The selec tion of Sharkey, who won the ; title from Max Schmeling in 1832, . and lost it to Primo Camera a t year later, was announced last . night by Mr Emile Pigeon, chair- . man of the Montreal Athletic Commission. Few experts expect the bout - scheduled to begin at 3 a-m. G.M.T. on Thursday—to last the scheduled 15 rounds. Some predict an early knock-out by the polished Moore against his crude opponent, but the possibility of a knock-out by' the hard-swing-ing Durelle is not ruled out. Moore is a 3 to I on favourite.
