Rugby Cambridge Beats Oxford
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, December 9. Cambridge beat Oxford 17-6 in the annual Universities’ Rugby match at Twickenham today. The Cambridge victory was easy in this seventy-seventh match between the two universities. Not since 1934 had Cambridge’s total of 17 points been surpassed. The match was watched by the Duke of Edinburgh and 60,000 fans. Last Minute Oxford had started slight favourites, but at no time looked like winning. They were outplayed in every department except in the tight scrums. The winning of these' did them no good, for the backs were right off their game. The dark blues succeeded in getting their only try in the last minute of the match, when Cambridge were playing only 14 men. This try was scored in the corner by John Young, the sprint chainpion, who hitherto had seen virtually nothing of the ball.
