N.Z.-MADE CRANES

“Not Satisfied With Them”

“Those who have had New Zealand cranes are not quite satisfied with them,” said the chairman (Mr W. P. Gfiue) at yesterday’s meeting of the Lyttelton Harbour Board.

He was adding to his report that the executive of tihe Harbours’ Association had considered a letter from the Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr P. N. Holloway) requesting boards to conserve funds by accepting as far as possible New Zealand-manufac-tured cranes.

“The impracticability of this proposal will be expressed to the Minister by a deputation which will be led by the president of the Harbours’ Association,” said Mr Glue.

“The deputation will also urge that permits should be issued to those boards which have accepted tenders for cranes in order that ports may be able to function in a proper manner.”

The department had Also . suggested that use be made of spare parts of New Zealand manufacture, said Mr Glue. That was absolutely impossible.
