VALUE OF LAND AT AVONHEAD
Big Increase In Last Year
Because the rateable capital value of the Avonhead district had risen by about £1,500,000 in the last year, it was proposed to raise another loan to continue the road sealing and footpaths that had been formed in the previous six months, according to Mr C. L. Austin’s report to the Avonhead Residents’ Association at a meeting recently. Progress in the laying of sewers in the district would also be very welcome, so the meeting decided to seek information from the Christchurch Drainage Board about its plans for laying sewers in the area.
Complaints about the lack of a bus service to the Avonhead district were made at the meeting. Some housewives, it was said, had to go two miles to get to the bus. As representations from the board have so far brought no result, the Riccarton Businessmen’s Association will be asked to sponsor a move for a service.
Officers elected were:—Patrohs, Messrs M. A. Connelly, M.P., C. L. Austin, Colonel C. Abbott; president,Mr W. J. Campbell; vice-ptesi-dent, Mr H. Gardner; secretarytreasurer, Mr E. D.. Kwok; committee, Messrs H. G. Riches. N. Burnell, R. Crawford, J. W. Graham, D. Menzies, F. I. Cowlishaw, E. F. Braithwaite, T. H. Bitmead, and V. Clarke and Mrs C. Kwok.
