Two Over The Eight
When the young Australian professional golfer, Bruce Crampton, comes to write his memoirs, he may feel he has to make reference to the last hole at Wollongong. This is a comfortable scratch 4 hole, and in the first round of the 36-hole Ampol £5OO tournament there last week Crampton drove the green. W’hen he reached the same hole in the afternoon, he needed only a 6 to win first prize money But he put his tee shot out of bounds. He put down another ball, and sent that out of bounds too. His third attempt went the same way, and he played his seventh shot off the tee. Crampton’s 10 may have cost him a considerable sum, but it brought him a close link of sympathy with a good many in the gallery.
