ANNOUNCERS ACQUITTED
Military Trial In Iraq Rec. 9 pm » BAGDAD. Nov. 18 Crowds yesterday cheered outside a special high military court when rive former Bagdad radio announcers were acquitted of charges of distorting facts and deceiving the nation by broadcasting features for the United States Information Service. The crowds, shouting “long live justice.'' carried one of the announcers shoulder-high from the court. The president ul the court. Colonel Fadhel Abbas Mahdawi. ruled that the announcers had no criminal intent and were only petty officials working under the duress of their chief Their chief, the former Bagdad Radio director. Kadhem Haideri. was sentenced to live years’ imprisnnment with hard labour. The court also si ntenced the former Deputy-Director of Guidmce and Information. Muhasen Mohammed Ali. ’o 10 years’ imprisonment. and the former Iraq: military attache in Cairo. Colonel Keher Hammoudi. to one year’s imprisonment. The sentences are subject to confirmation.
