CRITICISM OF MORMONS
“Beliefs Have No Basis” (New Zealand Press Association; HAMILTON, November 12. “It is difficult to treat seriously the fantastic and absurd statements of the Mormons; the beliefs that they consider to be important either have no basis in the Bible or are not fundamental to its teaching,” was the conclusion reached by a committee on doctrine submitted to the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand. The committee had prepared a long statement in the Church’s White Paper in which it set out what the Mormons say with respect to various aspects of their teaching and what the Presbyterian Church says relative to the same issues. It was decided to publish the committee’s findings in a pamphlet for distribution among Presbyterians.
Brooklands Fire Hazard.—Officers of the Metropolitan Fire Board recently met residents of the Brooklands area, who complained of the fire hazard from big areas of gorse and other undergrowth. In co-operation with the Waimairi County Council, schemes are being prepared to eliminate the worst danger and to isolate the main problem area.
