HORSES

Trotters And Pacers Again the entry in the trotting and pacing section was weak. There were no nominations for the entire horse and brood mare classes, and there were only two in the two and three-year-old sections, five in the yearling colts, and four in the yearling fillies. L. G. Tisch won the prize for the best yearling colt with a shapely juvenile by Meadow Chief—Northern Star with a First Lord —Logan Bell colt owned by A. T. Woodhouse and bred by N. Andrews in second place. J. M. Connolly, who was third in this class, with his Stormy way—lmperial Volo colt, took the fillies division with a yearling by Stormy way—Single Task, and in the section for two and three-year-olds. W. L. Harris won with Bonny Rachel, a filly by Light Brigade—Noble Ginnie. Hunters Horses and testing fences engaged the attention of comparatively few spectators for with a fair number of withdrawals and more important contests to be decided today and tomorrow, interest was not at a high pitch. A shower of rain would have put the oval in first class order. It carried a good sole of grass, but the horses were raising dust on the take-off side of several jumps. The open six-bar event run under abridged International Rules proved a severe test, especially when in the second and third rounds of the jump-off the height | of three jumps was increased as ’ provided for in the rules. Miss , N. S. Darling scored a popular win on a very useful jumper in 1 Remember while the judges were ' unable to separate D. F. Bates on i Matagouri and E. Upritchard on | Land Rover. H. 11. Elworthy's ■ Pharoah and Miss June Cress- . well's Flash and B. G. RutherI ford’s Bomber were equal fourth. ' The maiden hunters competi- ■ tion presented a mixed display of i very good and mediocre jumping, i the decision going to E. G. O. I Rutherford's Radar. In the highi weight hunters. N. G. Fagan s

Khyber had a well-deserved win in a good field. The heavy-weight hunters attracted a good field and a close contest went to Miss B. McFarlane's Smuggler, which won, with Miss Mary Hazlett’s Gabriel’s Gully next.

Today the big attraction will be the Open F.E.I. jump and tomorrow the Renown Challenge Cup and ladies’ hunter competition will be decided.
