Friesian
The Friesian section was. on the whole, a grand display, with the three-year-old milking class very strong, said the judge. Mr B. S. Kyle, of Otaki. He considered the 117 entries to be an excellent number. “There were excellent entries in the mature class bull section. In fact there was no tail end whatsoever,” Mr Kyle said. C. W. Humm and Sons’ champion bull Glcnhope Southern Pride was an exceptionally fine beast and the champion cow. of M. B. Leslie. Lcsdale C.M. Pearl was a fine type of cow, although the reserve champion, Deloraine Domino Jill, from N. J. Shcrriff and .Sons, was at a disadvantage as it was showing only a short time out of calf, he said. Mr Kyle said his one adverse comment was that the heifer calves could have been shown in a better order. Guernsey There were only seven entries for the Guernsey section, judged by Mr R. J. Gilbert, of Leeston. and only one bull was entered in the section. The bull, C. C. A. McLachlan’s Corwar Caesar, was a very good looking animal and. although still very young, should develop into an excellent animal. “Already it is showing plenty of depth for its age.” he said. The cows were quite good, the judge said, and he awarded the championship to C. C. McLachlan’s Glenroy Harmony. He noted that it had been in. milk since April and had lost a little bit of its condition. Red Poll This year’s Red Poll section, although small, was an improvement on last year’s entry. It increased by eight to 19 entries. R. A. Stephens’s Balrazie Boxer was the champion bull and M. M. Fleming’s Willow Lea Arab the reserve champion. The champion cow was M. M. Fleming’s Otahuna Madeline 83rd and the reserve champion R. A. Stephens’s Balrazie Daisy Girl 21st.
