QUICK ARREST BY C.I.B
Valuable Bag Lost Within half an hour of a young woman informing the Christchurch Criminal Investigation Branch that her handbag, containing several hundred pounds, was missing a detective arrested a middle-aged woman yesterday morning. The young woman said she had left her handbag in a convenience and when she returned 10 minutes later it was missing. The money was the total savings of a young couple who had sold all their possessions in the North Island to come to Christchurch to live. As soon as a complaint was made to the police, Detective G. D. Langley, assisted by Constable E. C. Schmack, of the women’s police division, made inquiries. A middle-aged woman found in Cathedral square was taken to the Central Police Station in a patrol car. She was arrested and held in custody and will appear in the Magistrate’s Court this morning, on a charge of theft.
