BAPTIST BIBLE CLASSES
Overseas Mission Spending The sum of £4375 for overseas missions has been allowed for in a budget planned at the final session of the conference of the Dominion council of the Baptist Bible Class movement at Tyndale House, Christchurch, yesterday. Fifty-three delegates from six district unions have been attending the week-end conference. The conference has allowed for a minimum income of £6750 from members during the year. Of this £4375 will go to overseas missions, £4OO to Maori work, £565 to church extension work, £450 to a new Baptist college and £575 to youth work. The balance will be used for administrative purposes. Considerable time was spent yesterday afternoon in drawing up a Bible class study syllabus fon the next four years. Membership Membership in the Baptist Bible class movement had grown to 4400, the Dominion council reported. Bible class members had over the last two years given £14,600 to denominational funds, of which £10,960 had been designated for overseas and Maori missions. The Bible classes had also bought a utility vehicle for Baptist missionaries in India. Members of the new Dominion council are:— President, Mr H. R. French; vice-president, Miss Norah Holland; secretary, Miss Anne Little; treasurer, Mr D. W. Holland; council, Mesdames, R. H. French, H. S. Martin, J. Nisbet, J. S. Winder, Misses N. Bachelor, E. A. Lockie, G. Sanson, Messrs B. J. Gilberthorpe, E. R. Griffiths, G. Norrish, G. H. Reddell, T. B. Nuttall, the Rev. G. F. Coombs, the Rev. A. L. Silcock. Ex-officio members are the youth director of the Baptist Union (the Rev. L. A. North) and the immediate past presidents (Miss F. J. Stanton and Mr J. E. Smith).
