LOSS OF £l2 FOR YEAR

Rangiora Club

A loss for the year of £l2 is shown in the accounts to be presented at the annual meeting of the Rangiora Trotting Club on Thursday, October 2. This loss was caused, in the main, by the wet weather encountered by the Cheviot Trotting Club at its meeting in March. During the year many improvements were made on the course, says the report of the president (Mr A. J. Deyell). The trotting club and the North Canterbury Racing Club purchased a building at Lyttelton, and this was re-erected on the course at a total cost to the two clubs of £3091. The building is used as a luncheon room for' both members and the public. It is insured for £7OOO on a replacement basis. The old stalls facing north have been moved, re-erected, and renovated, the report says, and new stalls have been constructed. The track has been improved and the running rail painted. ’ Ground has been levelled to allow the parade ring to be shifted to a more suitable position.

Inside Rail The ground inside the running rail has been leased, and already half the area has been cultivated and sown down. This has greatly improved the appearance of the course. It is intended that within the next few years the land will be made revenue-making. Mr P. Rae was appointed caretaker of the course last January. The improvements carried out since then demonstrate the wisdom of this action.

Only the required number of nominations have been received for officers of the club, and the following will be declared elected at the annual meeting:—patrons, Messrs O. Hutchinson, C. S. Thomas, W. H. Gillespie; president, Mr Deyell; viceoresidents, Messrs N. G. Mason, G. I. Morris, J McClung, A. C. Stokes; treasurer, Mr N. K. Aitken; committee and stewards, Messrs F. E. Waterworth, S. C. Stokes, J. W. Brosnan, J. A. Evans, G. H. Loffhagen, J. T. Power, S. J. Lugg, J. B. Cox. H. C Steel, H. G. Cobum, B. T. Roper, J. W. Rainey.
