Ski-ing North Canterbury Club
The North Canterbury Ski Club’s 1 championships were held last weekend at the club’s grounds at Broken River Basin, Craigiebum. The weather was excellent and although fairly icy conditions prevailed on Saturday, the snow improved considerably for . Sunday. The course was set by Mr A. C. Rattray for an interesting slalom through 42 gates on the Saturday and a giant slalom on Sunday. This was set from the ridge to below the bottom tow hut, a vertical descent of just more than 1000 feet. W. Wilson ran tw’o very consistent races to take the men’s combined title, with M. Lamb a close second. Third place was filled by D. Herrick, a young second-yaar skier, who is showing great promise. Miss Jenette Mclntosh gainsd the women’s combined title by a comfortable margin a* a result of steady ski-ing. Results: — Slalom. —Men: M. Lamb, no points lost, 1; W. Wilson, 10.42, 2f D Herrick. 14.06, 3. Women: J. McIntosh. no points lost, 1; M. Tunpe-’ cliffe, 3.67, 2; S. Bradley, 26.99, 3. Giant Slalom. —Men: R. Hamilton, no points lost, 1: R. Kirkland, 3JS. 2; W. Wilson. 10.53, 3; R. Heasley* 10.53. 4. Women: M. Brown, no points lost, 1: J. Mclntosh. 2.06, 2; K. Gray, 12.75. 3. Combined.—Men: W. Wilson 1, M. Lamb 2, D. Herrick 3. Woman: J. Mclntosh 1, K. Gray 2. S. Bradley 3. Truck Abandoned.—A two-ton Railways Department truck which was converted in Christchurch on Monday night was found abandoned near Otira on Wednesday.
