Lawn Tennis TOURNEY FOR JUNIORS

First Time Held In Christchurch The B.P. Coronation junior lawn tennis tournament will this season be held in Christchurch —the first time it will have been played in the South Island. Played each year soon after the national junior championships, the tournament this time will be from January 26 to 28, immediately before the Canterbury junior championships (January 29 to 31). The New Zealand junior championship* will be in Wellington, from January 20 to 24. The Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association made strong application for the x B.P. tournament last season when it was held in Gisborne, but had to wait another season. The tournament, which will be held for the sixth tirrite, is fqr secondary school players selected by local associations. Canterbury has been represented by four players each season and has had considerable success. In 1954, Miss J. Davidson (Canterbury) took the girls’ trophy: the next year she retained her title and. A. D. Huston won the boys’ event: In 1956. Miss Davidson won for jthe third time; and in 1957, G. Judge won the boys’ trophy. Last season Canterbury was unsuccessful. Boys* and girls’ events begin with play In four sections each' with section winners meeting in the semifinals and then the finals.
