Chamois Reported Near Area
(New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, Sept 24. Reports reaching Invercargill this morning said that two chamois had been sighted in the Fiordland National Park area, which adjoins the Caples Valley area where poison trials are being conducted. A very agile animal, the chamois lives on alpine flora and can be as destructive as the deer. Normally it is found in the Dobson Valley district, near Mount Cook. Officers of the Fiordland National Park Board said this morning they hoped the two which had been sighted yesterday were only strays, and that they were not part of a herd which might be forming in the area. The chamois were sighted by two men on the Routeburn track, between Lake Howden and Kinloch.
