TINWALD STOCK SALE

Although there was another substantial yarding of fat sheep at the Tinwald sale on Tuesday, it was not nearly as large as the previous two sales. However, there appeared to be too many for the buyers. Prices dropped as much as 2s or 3s a head on last week. Top fat woolly wethers brought up to 69s Id, and mediums 62s Id to 65s Id. Shorn wethers sold at up to 54s Id, with medium bringing 50s Id to 53s Id, and light 45s Id to 48s Id. The best of the fat woolly ewes made up to 46s Id, with good mediums making from 41s Id to 44s Id. Best shorn fat ewes made up to 33s Id, but the majority of the yarding brought 26s Id to 29s Id. Only a small number of fat hoggets were offered, and for the best of these, which were only medium sheep, top price was 63s Id. Mediums fetched from 57s Id to 61s Id. In the shorn hogget section, 50s Id was the top price, with other sales of light to medium ranging from 42s Id to 47s Id. Top woolly maiden ewes brought up to 53s Id. and top shorn maiden ewes sold at from 38s Id to 40s Id.

Store Sheep There was a very small yarding of store sheep, and all sections sold well. Of the two pens offered in the wether hogget section, one was a pen of small autumn-shorn down cross, which sold at 33s 6d. The other was a small pen of Romney cross woolly hoggets, and these brought 47s 6d. In the ewe hogget section, a pen of small halfbred ewe hoggets sold well at 435, and a pen of autumnshorn Romney cross ewe hoggets, offered on behalf of a Mayfield client, made 575. Two pens only were offered in the adult sheep section, the first being a pen of 46 woolly five-year ewes with 50 Southdown cross lambs at foot. These were very good buying at 26s 6d, all counted. The other was a small pen of shorn ewes' with very good lambs at foot, and these made 29s all counted.
