CONTROL OF HOMES FOR AGED
“Full Consultation With Councils’’ (New Zeaiana Press Association) WELLINGTON, September 24. There would be the fullest consultation with welfare councils before regulations were issued for the control of homes for elderly people, the Minister of Health (Mr Mason) said in the House of Representatives today, in reply to a question asked by Mr W. J. Scott (Opposition, Rodney). Mr Scott asked for' the assurance especially in cases affecting homes run by well-established religious institutions. Mr Mason said the provision relating to homes in the Statutes Amendment Bill was intended to deal with unsatisfactory cases. There was no idea of interfering with establishments run by religious organisations. Mr R. M. Algie (Opposition, Remuera) suggested that recognised religious organisations should be exempted from the operation of the word “control.” Mr Mason said the matter could be discussed when the bill was being considered by the House. f
