SHIPPING GROUPS
Nordmeyer Calls For Improvement MONTREAL, Sept. 24. The • New Zealand Minister of Finance (Mr Nordmeyer) called yesterday for improvement in the operations of shipping groups formed by major companies serving many Commonwealth areas. He was speaking at the Commonwealth trade and economic conference on the agenda item “Measures to expand Commonwealth trade.” Mr Nordmeyer said countries of the Commonwealth carried on a large proportion of their trade with lines which were grouped in conference. There were advantages—in efficiency ano regularity—in the conference form of organisation.
“Nevertheless,” he said, “there is always the element of monopoly practice in these conferences. We should see that accusations of bad monopoly practices cannot be justified.”
