HOCKEY TOURNEY AT GERALDINE

More Than Seventy Teams Take Part After a lapse of three years, the hockey tournament at Geraldine was revived on Saturday by the Geraldine Sports Association. With more than 70 teams taking part from as far afield as Christchurch in the north and Milton in the south, it proved an outstanding success, some good fast hockey being played both in the men’s and women s sections. Christchurch teams were prominent in the finals, with Harewood scooping the pool in the women’s sections, RedcliffS winning the intermediate and schoolboys section. The men's senior went to Lowcliffe. Results were:— Men’s Senior First round: Lowcliffa B beat Excelsior, 2-1; Harewood beat Ashburton Technical Old Boys, 2-0; Christchurch Boys’ High School beat Ashburton Technical Old Boys B, IJ-l; Christchurch Old Boys’ A beat Waimate, 4-0; Mairehau beat Cambridge. 3-1. Semi-final: Woolston beat Lowcliffe B, J-0: Harewood beat Geraldine, 4-0; Lowcliffe beat Christchurch High School, 1-0; Christchurch Old Boys beat Mairehau, 1-0; Semi-final: Harewood beat Woolston, 4-0; Lowcliffe beat Christchurch Old Boys, 1-0. Final: Lowcliffe beat Harewood, 2-1. The winning team was G. Fronting, I. Taylor, D. Hawke, P, Harris. N. Anstey.
