MISSING CYCLIST

Trip In Outback On Wheel Rims (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright ALICE SPRINGS, Sept. 22. Northern Territory police have been alerted to watch out for a Jugoslav migrant, Frank Sumenjak, aged 23, who has disappeared on what has been described as a “mad cycling trip.” Sumenjak has several times been rescued during attempts to ride his bicycle through the lonely, waterless wastes of the Northern Territory and has been warned not to make these trips. He was last seen leaving Ti Tree Wells, 150 miles from Alice Springs, for Tennant Creek, 200 miles away. As he disappeared into the heatwaves shimmering over the bitumen, an amazed shopkeeper realised that the bicycle was running on the bare rims of its wheels. The cyclist has not been seen since but it is thought that he may have been given a lift on a truck. Last week he appeared in the Alice Springs Police Court on a vagrancy charge after he had been picked up by a truck when he was trying to ride his bicycle through the outback to Alice Springs.
