PARDON THE INCONVENIENCE

When a large and popular department store has no option but to place difficulties before its public the time has indeed come for an apology—and that is what Hay’s, Ltd., ‘The Friendly Store,” is doing here —“Please customers, forgive any inconvenience at the Colombo street entrance of our store during the next few weeks —it is part of the price of reconstruction and progress!” Big changes are now under way at Hay’s “front door” —the large building adjoining the northern side of our store is being linked with the present building to give double the frontage and new interior area for a larger-than-ever range of merchandise and even better service than in the past. The complete alterations involve removal of two shop fronts as well as the store’s present display windows, clearance of walls and other large structural work, all of which involve difficulties, particularly when the policy must be one of “business as usual.” Hay’s ask all customers to bear -with them during this period, and invite them to watch this latest progressive move unfold. —Advt.
