SURVEY OF N.Z. LEMON COSTS

Study Of Industry By Government ("The Press' Special Service) AUCKLAND, September 23. Until the completion ot a Government survey into the costs of production of Lemons, no action can be taken to ensure a better price for growers, Mr P. Lytord, chairman of the New Zealand Citrus Council, told a meeting of the Kerikerl Citrus Society. Mr Lyford said that the result of the survey, which is expected to be completed by June, 1859, could be used by the council in further bargaining. If the amount of. the costs could not,be. recovered from the market, the Government would be asked to state whether it considered the lemon industry essential. Fruit Distributors, Ltd., had suffered heavy losses for the last few years on the contract price paid to the growers, and this could not continue. Until the cost structure was established, lemon growers could make no case for an increased price for their products, said Mr Lyford.
