Auckland Opposes Team Reduction

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, September 23.

The Auckland Cricket Association has no intention of supporting Otago’s proposal to reduce the number of Plunket Shield teams. The association’s secretary (Mr E. J. Price) said today it would be unfair to drop Central Districts and Northern Districts. “Central is one of the strongest teams, and Northern joined the competition only last season, and must have a longer trial,” said Mr Price. “If the weakest team was dropped, then Canterbury, as bottom team last season, would be out,” he said. “I cannot see the Canterbury members of the New Zealand Cricket Council agreeing to that.”
