WEIGHT-LIFTING RECORDS
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 9 p.m.) MOSCOW, Sept. 22. Russian weight-lifters set two world records in an event held at Lugansk, according to the Moscow Radio.
In the middle-weight class Vladimir Tomishenko pressed 140 kilogrammes (308.51b)—2’Alb better than the previous record held by Fedor Bogdanovsky. Anatoly Zhitevsky, light-heavy-weight, pressed 145.5 kilogrammes (320.51 b beating by 11b the record held by the American, Tommy Kono, who has just retained his world middle-weight championship in Stockholm.
Daffodil Championship.—A Palmerston North exhibitor, S. A. Free, was awarded an Empire championship at the National Daffodil Society’s show at Dunedin yesterday. The award was made for his New Zealand seedlings, which were judged with Australian and British seedlings.— (P.A.)
